Will teleworking be widespread in 2021?
Working from home has many advantages, such as helping to balance work and family life, saving significant travel time and even increasing productivity. According to an Adecco report, 80% of employers expect to make it easier for their employees to work from home once the health crisis is over. Sounds good, doesn’t it?
Whether you have already tried this way of working or you are a neophyte, here are five recommendations to help you get the most out of it.
1. Mentally travel to your workplace
For teleworking to work, you have to convince yourself that nothing has changed except the place where you are sitting. Deal with your working day as you normally would, i.e. take off your pyjamas, plan your tasks, follow your usual schedule and focus on your work.
2. Be inflexible with schedules
In every way. Don’t be tempted to mix up professional and domestic tasks. Forget about preparing food or folding laundry during working hours because you will be distracted and one task will probably lead to another and another…
In the same way, set a work schedule and don’t skip it except for very justified exceptions. If you don’t respect it, you won’t be able to give your brain the disconnection time it needs to be really productive.
3. Beware of isolating yourself from the world
Working from home is not synonymous with closure. Keeping in touch with colleagues is vital to maintain the previous rhythm and continue to be informed of what is going on in the company.
There are currently many tools that facilitate this task and allow you to organise meetings via the Internet or create internal chats.
4. Looking for allies to take care of the little ones
When you have young children, teleworking can be a challenge because babies don’t understand meetings, deadlines or calls from the boss.
If the children are of a certain age, a good option is to organise playful activities in advance, which they can do together with us, but independently. The best example is handicrafts.
If they are small children, the best thing is to help us with accessories such as children’s bouncers that allow us to keep the baby always close by while we carry out our tasks. Moreover, if we add to the bouncers the Ride&Go Baby wheels, we can swing the little one with our feet while we work, take him with us if we have to move to another room or even move him to his bedroom without having to take him if he falls peacefully asleep.
5. Lead by example
If you think that teleworking is the ideal option for you, don’t hesitate and fight for it. Show that it is a way of working as good or even better than face-to-face by being responsible and fulfilling your objectives and functions in the same way as you would do if you were at your workplace. Make your superiors see that there is no room for distrust by keeping yourself accessible within your working hours and encouraging contact with them and your colleagues.
Experts predict that telework is here to stay. What about you, do you think? Telework yes or no?
